C-ILMT

Compact In-Line Mooring Tensioner

Flintstone developed its first in line tensioner for the Vito project in the Gulf of Mexico.

The lessons learned from that project has enabled Flintstone to develop a more compact, lighter design with operational benefits.

Operationally the new compact design avoids the “tipping” issue – when tension is pulled vertically the frame tends to rotate and chain guide contacts the incoming chain which creates friction.  The ILMT lifts until the tension in the lift wire exceeds the friction and then the chain tends to run through the frame.  In the new design the incoming chain does not contact the guide and the resultanct force is in line with the lower chain section.  The tipping moment is therefore removed and the tensioning is  a lot smoother.
