Challenge Improve Deliver
Equinor’s Hywind project located offshore North East Scotland is the World’s first commercial floating wind farm. MacGregor was selected by Equinor to be the mooring solution provider.
The specific challenge for the Hywind project is to overcome the fatigue loads in the mooring chain where connected to the SPAR hull due to wind wave and blade induced loading.
The MacGregor team developed a unique bearing solution which solves this fatigue issue. In addition, the installation methodology was developed and implemented offshore implying off vessel tensioning from a support vessel.
The result is the successful installation and commissioning of the Hywind floating wind project which is operating consistently above its target performance.
